Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has been confirmed as Great Britain captain for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The 38-year-old is one of three over-age players who has been named in Stuart Pearce's 18-man Team GB squad.

Liverpool and Wales striker Craig Bellamy, and Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards are also in the squad.

A Team GB tweet on Sunday read: "Stuart Pearce confirms Ryan Giggs will captain the Team GB football squad."

Team GB will play Senegal, UAE and Uruguay in their group games as they compete in the competition for the first time since 1960.

The team will play a friendly against Brazil in Middlesbrough on July 20th ahead of their opening Olympic fixture against Senegal at United's Old Trafford ground on July 26th.

Giggs will be competing at his first international tournament.
