New Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar has urged compatriot Robin van Persie, who is a target for Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus, to snub a move to Italy.
Van Persie last month stated he had no plans to sign a new contract at Arsenal, and with his existing deal expiring next summer, it is widely expected that he will leave Emirates Stadium this month.
But Vlaar has revealed it was his fellow Dutchman who helped him decide to move to England.
The 27-year-old this week joined Villa in a £3million deal and revealed: "I talked to Robin and several other players during the Euros.
"Robin told me if I had the chance then to come over, but it was still my decision and I'm very happy Aston Villa came in for me. I'm happy the deal was done.
"I also talked to Karim [El Ahmadi] and they said the Premier League would really suit me."
Although Van Persie is likely to quit Arsenal this month, Vlaar is hoping to still be able to come up against him during the forthcoming campaign.
"I really don't know where he is going. I haven't talked to him lately," he added.
"I just hope he stays in England so I can face him. I've trained against him with the national team and he is a great player.
"It would be a big loss if he leaves England."
Man Utd are at time of writing favourites with bookmakers Sky Bet to win the race to sign the 28-year-old this summer, ahead of Man City, and Juventus.
AC Milan, Barcelona, and Real Madrid have also shown interest.
