Sunderland v Manchester City Tips

Crunch Sports Staff - 13 Mar 2010

It’s hard what to make of Manchester City. Not so long ago, they were outfought by Hull at the KC Stadium and knocked out of the FA Cup by Stoke City after a replay and extra-time.

More recently, they travelled to Stamford Bridge and made a mockery of their 10/1 quote by winning 4-2, something which has seen the bookmakers offer just 11/8 (Ladbrokes) that they finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.

Sunday’s match at the Stadium of Light will clearly be a big test of their Champions League credentials, although firms offer a best price 5/4 (Victor Chandler) that Roberto Mancini’s team come away with all three points.

They have only recorded four victories from fourteen matches on the road, although they are sure to be well backed after their demolition of Chelsea. Carlos Tevez was the chief architect of that particular success and the Argentine is 9/2 (bet365) to get his side off the mark on Sunday.

Then again, Sunderland have now kept two clean sheets on the bounce and Tuesday’s match against Bolton saw their long-lasting winless run come to an abrupt end. Steve Bruce’s team thrashed Bolton 4-0 to ease any relegation fears and the Black Cats are 5/2 (bet365) to have Liverpool, Spurs and Aston Villa supporters celebrating by taking a maximum haul.

Darren Bent was on song against Wanderers with a hat-trick and it’s a surprise that the forward continues to get overlooked for England. He has nabbed more than his fair share of first goals this term and is 13/2 (Sporting Bet) to find the net against a City defence that you could hardly describe as watertight, even with the excellent Shay Given between the sticks.
