Valencia CF confirm Chelsea FC to sign Juan Mata in €27m deal

Chelsea will sign Juan Mata this week subject to him passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

Valencia on Sunday night confirmed they have agreed to sell the Spain international to the Blues following weeks of speculation linking the 23-year-old with a move to Arsenal.

Mata will join Chelsea in a deal worth around £23.5million.

A statement on Valencia's official website read: "Valencia Football Club has reached an agreement in principle with Chelsea FC for the transfer of the player Juan Manuel Mata.

"The agreement is subject to the relevant medical tests."

Tottenham had also been interested in the midfielder, who will join compatriot Oriol Romeu and Romelu Lukaku at Stamford Bridge should he complete his move to West London.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas had on Saturday night hinted that the club were looking to sign Mata.

"He's a good player, a very good player," said AVB.

"He's not our player but he's an interesting player.

"His curriculum speaks for itself. He's a player who scores and assists and he can add to any squad in the world."
