ATP Atlanta - Go Soeda vs. Gilles Muller (18:00 BST)

Go Soeda takes on Gilles Muller this afternoon in the semi-finals of the Atlanta Tennis Championships (18:00 BST start).

Soeda stunned third seed Kei Nishikori 6-2 6-1 in Friday's quarter-finals, the first time two Japanese players had faced each other in the last eight of an ATP event in the Open Era.

Amazingly for a player of his experience, Nishikori simply didn't turn up.

"I was injured before Wimbledon," Nishikori said afterwards.

"I guess I didn't get my confidence [back] yet.

"I didn't feel much pressure. I just didn't play well, I think. I couldn't put the ball in, especially my backhand and my serve. He didn't miss and he was really aggressive. At the same time I didn't play well. I couldn't put in the ball somehow. I lost my confidence."

Muller took full advantage of his good fortune (Mardy Fish had to retire against him in the second round when leading by a set) to reach the semi-finals, beating Aussie Matthew Ebden comfortably 6-4 6-4 in the last eight.

Look for Soeda to continue his good run.

Prediction: Soeda in two.
