ATP Rafael Nadal vs Nikolay Davydenko

Crunch Sports Staff - 9 Jan 2010

Nadal looks good to capture a title at the Qatar Open in Doha.

Rafael Nadal appears to be back after a hiatus from top level tennis success that extends to since before the French Open.

True, Nadal's ranking has always been at least in the top 3 since May 2009, but he was faltering so often against top 10 players that Nadal was, at one point, considered a slight underdog in a heads up match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (Nadal won).

Rafael Nadal will now go head to head against Nikolay Davydenko in the final of the Qatar Open in Doha in what is an important match, not just directly for the ATP title, but for implications in the futures market for the Australian Open.

First let's look at the odds for the Nadal vs Davydenko match:

Rafael Nadal: -137 (about 5/7), Stan James
Nikolay Davydenko: +120 (6/5), Paddy Power

The value in this match certainly appears to be with Nadal who is starting to steamroll through the competition again.  Last week in Abu Dhabi (an exhibition tournament), Nadal defeated both Robin Soderling and Nikolay Davydenko, two players that had been enjoying recent success against the Spaniard.

Now in Qatar, nobody has won more than 3 games in a set against Nadal and he appears poised to take down his first tour title in a long time.

Our recommendation is to take Nadal to beat Davydenko with Stan James.  You may also want to consider taking Nadal at +500 (Victor Chandler) to win the Australian Open at this point as well.  Should Nadal defeat Davydenko, as expected, then that price should shorten, making now the time to bet.

Go to Stan James to bet on ATP tennis and Grand Slam futures.
