Andy Murray faces Alejandro Falla at the ATP Los Angeles event

Murray will need to put a complete match together to avoid being challenged by Falla.

Andy Murray had to shake off a little bit of rust yesterday to defeat American Tim Smyczek 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.  Transitioning from grass to hard court is not always a comfortable one and Murray admitted that things didn't feel perfect in Los Angeles.

"The top of my right hip and lower back was stiff,” he said. “It isn't an injury, just on one of the changeovers my muscles started hurting. The last few changeovers I was standing up – something I have never done on tour before."

Murray now draws Alejandro Falla, who is into the quarters after knocking out 5th seeded Ernests Gulbis 3-6, 6-4, 7-6.

The Columbian did his best to keep Gulbis in the match in the final set tiebreak squandering four match points before eventually sealing it 10-8.

Murray beat Falla about 5 years ago in a challenger match 7-6, 6-3.  He will have to play well to defeat Falla but the Scot is coming in as a heavy favorite.
