Andy Murray's backers will be hoping that the Scottish star turns up the heat against Spain's Nicolas Almagro.
Nicolas Almagro surprised the Californian crowd with a three set win on Tuesday against the popular American James Blake.
In a battle of the heavy forehands, Almagro came out the strongest and the final scout in the match was 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Almagro beat Murray in four sets at the 2008 French Open back when Murray was still something of a novice on the red stuff but Murray gained revenge with a 7-6, 6-2 win in Cincinnati last summer.
Murray will need to show more of a game plan in this match, something which seems to have been lacking in either of his matches so far. He has won both in straight sets against fairly mediocre opposition but he has been playing the sort of passive tennis which will not get him very far against the contenders for this title.
Can Almagro be the player to punish him ? The Spaniard has been striking the ball very cleanly all week and he has the weapons in his game to hit Murray off the court.
However Almagro can be quite a streaky player and it is hard to see him maintaining the necessary level against Murray over best of three sets.
