Dimitrov will face Thomas Schoorel in the final round of qualifying.

Grigor Dimitrov, a 19 year old player on the ATP Tour, is one step away from qualifying for his first Australian Open main draw.

Dimitrov defeated Reda El Amrani on Friday from Melbourne and the 3 seed in the qualifying draw will now face Thomas Schoorel of the Netherlands.

Schoorel, a 21 year old player who is erroneously listed as being 7'3" with his ATP home page, is a left hander who played a competitive set against Roger Federer last week at ATP Doha. Though he is not as gigantic as his ATP home page makes him out to be, at 6'7" (Wikipedia) lobs against him will have to have a fierce topspin if they are going to be effective.

Perhaps the same form that saw him represent himself well against Federer will see him past his younger opponent in the final round of qualifying but Dimitrov, who had multiple challenger titles in 2010, is the better pure talent.

Schoorel will have some confidence as he saw Stefan Koubek off in the second round of qualifying but the Dutch player did drop a set.

You have to wonder if Koubek, a veteran of 38 Grand Slam main draws, has seen his last Australian Open as the 34 year old is ranked 133rd and he will sink significantly soon as he made the 3rd round of the Aussie last year.

Other players with their eyes on the main draw include Canada's Frank Dancevic and Nicolas Mahut of France.
