French player provides value at Gstaad.
French tennis player Jeremy Chardy has been moving up the rankings within the top 100 quite impressively lately. Still only aged 22 years, Chardy is at a career high on the ATP tour with a rank of 32. At about this top last year he was barely hanging on to a top 100 position as he was 97th in the world.
Chardy's credentials on tour this year include a recent title in Stuttgart, Germany where he beat 5 top 50 players and only dropped 2 sets during the entire event. Earlier in the year at Johannesburg, Chardy made the finals and lost a tightly played match to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Also, Chardy has victories this year over Radek Stepanek, Igor Andreev, David Ferrer, Tommy Haas, and Marin Cilic. At Wimbledon, Chardy got a little unlucky with a very unfavorable first round draw against eventual finalist Andy Roddick. That said Chardy did manage to take a set off of Roddick and that was significant given how outstanding Roddick was during the fortnight.
Chardy is now the 5 seed at Gstaad and the best player in the field, by ranking, is Stanislas Wawrinka. At +700 (7/1; bet365) to win outright at Gstaad, Chardy looks like he certainly has value and he is our recommendation to win at Gstaad.
