Future star is only 16 years old.
Something happened at the 2010 Australian Open that nobody noticed: as a result of the qualifying tournament playdowns a few weeks ago, Michelle Larcher de Brito ceased to be the youngest player in the top 200.
Kristina Mladenovic came ever so close to qualifying for the main draw of the Slam at just 16 years of age but she fell in the last round of the qualifying tournament to Yuliana Fedak, 7-6, 7-6.
However even just the 50 tour ranking points she picked up were enough to vault her up into the top 200 on tour and, as she is a French player and incredibly young, she might garner some consideration for a Wild Card at the 2010 French Open this spring.
At this point, Mladenovic is simply a name to remember but she cannot seriously be taken in the futures market for any tournament at this time except for possibly at the ITF level.
