Maria Kirilenko takes on Germany's Julia Goerges this afternoon in the third round of the women's singles at the London 2012 Olympic Games (12:30 BST start).

Kirilenko was just too resilient for Britain's Heather Watson on Court One at Wimbledon on Tuesday, winning 6-3 6-2 despite the best efforts of the home crowd to rally the youngster.

Kirilenko is developing into a solid performer at the slams, reaching the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the first time in her career last month and she's looking very comfortable this week on returning to the grass.

However she'll be in for a real test against Goerges who stunned everyone by taking out Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanska in the first match of the tournament on Saturday. The big hitting German was relieved not to crash out in the very next round, seeing off the dangerous American Varvara Lepchenko 6-3 7-5.

Kirilenko leads 2-0 on the head-to-head having beaten Goerges twice in 2011 - both times in straight sets, on the hard courts of Beijing and in Stanford.

Prediction: Kirilenko in two.
