Nicolas Almagro, Stanislas Wawrinka Into Second Round in Rome

Nicolas Almagro and Stanislas Wawrinka were two of the seeded players who advanced to the second round at the 2011 Rome Masters.

The Rome Masters saw several matches played on Tuesday in the first and second round of the men's draw.

In two of those first round matches seeded players Stanislas Wawrinka and Nicolas Almagro played against unseeded opponents. Almagro and Wawrinka both underachieved in last week's Madrid Masters and they were both looking to get off to a solid start in Rome.

Almagro is particularly a noteworthy player in the Rome event as he has nine career clay court titles to his credit, including two from earlier this season. Should he hit improved form, he could threaten almost anyone in the Rome Masters draw.

Both Almagro and Wawrinka advanced on Tuesday with Wawrinka facing the more challenging match as he dropped the first set before recovering against Wild Card Fabio Fognini, an improving player on tour.

Next up for Almagro is American server Sam Querrey while Wawrinka will face Filippo Volandri.
