Olympic Tennis - Kim Clijsters vs. Carla Suarez Navarro (16:30 BST)

Kim Clijsters of Belgium returns a shot against Roberta Vinci of Italy during her Women's Singles Tennis Match on Day 1 of the London 2012 Olympic Games at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon on July 28, 2012 in London, England (credit: Clive Brunskill/AFP/Getty Images)
Kim Clijsters takes on Carla Suarez Navarro later this afternoon in the second round two of the women's singles at the London 2012 Olympic Games (16:30 BST start).

Former world No. 1 Clijsters is one of the players to watch at Wimbledon this week. The Belgian is retiring at the end of the season, but despite her injuries remains one of the most capable players in the WTA.

She made a fantastic start to the tournament on Saturday by seeing off Roberta Vinci in straight sets, 6-1 6-4.

"It's a great feeling knowing I'm here, because there were moments in the last year and a half I definitely thought about retiring again, not thinking I would even get to the Olympics," said Clijsters after beating the Italian.

"I'm happy I stuck with it and kept working hard.

"I still feel whenever I step out onto the court and feel good physically, if I play good tennis, I can beat a lot of good players. With that attitude, I'll go until I play my last match. For me it's a good attitude to have."

Clijsters will need to be on song again today in round two when she meets Suarez Navarro, though few people will be backing the Spaniard to upset the odds.

Suarez Navarro can be a dangerous opponent but she’s never made it further than round three at Wimbledon. This doesn’t bode particularly well ahead of a match against one of the best competitors to have ever played the game.

Clijsters also has past form on her side. She beat Suarez Navarro comfortably in the only previous match between the pairing, easing to a 6-1 6-3 triumph in round two of last year’s Australian Open.

Another second round win for the Belgian seems inevitable.

Prediction: Clijsters in two.
