Olympic Tennis - Venus & Serena Williams vs. Errani & Vinci (15:30 BST)

Defending champions Serena and Venus Williams take on Italian second seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci this afternoon in the quarter-finals of the women's doubles at the London 2012 Olympic Games (15:30 BST start).

The Williams sisters have already won two Olympic gold medals together as a pair (in Sydney and Beijing), and if they'd competed in Athens then they almost certainly would have a hat-trick. They've been able to win elite doubles events almost at will over the past decade, and it's slightly ridiculous that they aren't seeded this week as in everyone's eyes they are the favourites.

They made a mockery of the seedings with an emphatic 6-2 7-5 win over German fifth seeds Angelique Kerber and Sabine Lisicki in the second round yesterday. The doubles event at the Olympics is always a little more exciting than usual as all the top singles players opt to compete as well, and we were fascinated to see whether the combination of Lisicki's power and Kerber's durability would be enough to trouble the sisters.

However they answered all the questions the German pair posed with relative ease and they'll be big favourites to beat Errani and Vinci in straight sets.

Venus has already disposed of Errani in the singles, pelting aces and winners past the French Open runner-up in their first round clash and they're expected to make the Italians look a little bit lightweight today.

Prediction: Serena and Venus Williams in two.
