Andy Murray and Laura Robson take on Australian pair Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Stosur this afternoon in the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles at the London 2012 Olympic Games (16:30 BST start).

Unlike many of the pairs competing in the Olympic mixed doubles this week, Murray and Robson have already enjoyed success together as a duo. They have twice competed in the season-opener team bonanza, the Hopman Cup, reaching the final back in 2010.

That extra bit of experience came in handy during their first round match on Thursday evening against Radek Stepanek and Lucie Hradecka. Murray and Robson got used to pulling through match tiebreaks (in the Olympic mixed doubles, there is a ten point shootout instead of a third set) during their Hopman Cup run in Perth and that proved crucial as they recovered from 5-3 down to beat the Czechs 7-5 6-7 (10-7) to the relief of their fans.

Today they face an extremely stiff test against Hewitt and Stosur, who dumped out fourth seeds Agnieszka Radwanska and Marcin Matkowski 6-3 6-3.

Given how well Hewitt played in the singles, he will fancy his chances of picking up a medal in this event.

"Lleyton's known for his singles but he's an excellent doubles player, he made the final of the mixed here years ago and he's won (grand) slam doubles before,” Murray told reporters on Thursday.

"Sam, before she started to focus on singles, was No.1 doubles player in the world, so they will be very, very tough."

Prediction: Hewitt and Stosur in three.
