Jelena Jankovic takes on Jamie Hampton later today in the second round of the WTA Indian Wells Open.

Jankovic is one of the top seeds in this year’s BNP Paribas Open, and as a result of this, the world No. 14 she received a bye in round one.

The Serb gets her challenge for the title underway this evening with a second round clash against America’s Jamie Hampton, who is ranked just inside the top 100, and is not considered to be in with much of a chance in this match.

That said, Hampton made an almost perfect start to the competition, brushing aside Polona Hercog in just 52 minutes as she won her opener, 6-0 6-1. And following such a convincing win over a top 50 player, she should be looking forward to the opportunity to test herself against a competitor of Jankovic’s calibre.

This will be the first WTA matchup between Jankovic and Hampton, and it will be interesting to see what the underdog can do. The 22-year-old has made an exciting start this week, but she still seems likely to go down in straight sets unless she can once again produce her best tennis.

Prediction: Jankovic in two.
