Wimbledon 2012 - Five reasons why Victoria Azarenka can win Wimbledon

Victoria Azarenka can go all the way this week and claim her first Wimbledon title, according to Live-Tennis.com writer David Cox...

Azarenka turned in a superlative performance in Monday's fourth round, destroying former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic for the loss of just a single match, and in many people's eyes the Belarussian is now red hot favourite for the title.

Ahead of her quarter-final clash with Austria's Tamira Paszek later today, here's why Azarenka can win Wimbledon this weekend:

(1) Pedigree: There used to be serious doubts about Azarenka's mettle at the very highest level but she certainly proved her doubters wrong in January with a stunning performance to beat Maria Sharapova in the Australian Open final and win her first slam.

(2) Loving the grass: Azarenka has never really been a fan of the grass in the past but she's a new woman this year and has been oozing confidence throughout the tournament so far. Her destruction of Ivanovic was a tactical masterclass.

(3) Mental strength: Azarenka is one of the toughest competitors out there and she was fearless against Sharapova in the Melbourne final. She loves a tussle and don't expect her to be overawed if she's up against Petra Kvitova or Serena Williams in the semis.

(4) Serena's lack of form: Neither Williams or Kvitova looked particularly impressive in the fourth round. Serena nearly crashed out against the little known Yaroslava Shvedova while defending champ Kvitova struggled early on against clay-court specialist Francesca Schiavone.

(5) Sharapova's out: Just when the top half of the draw looked perfectly set for Sharapova to reach her third Wimbledon final, the Russian ran into an on-song Sabine Lisicki. But Lisicki has never made a major final before and don't expect any of the other names left in the top half to worry Azarenka, should she make the final.
