WWE has been forced to issue a full apology after one of their on-screen personalities joked that a wrestler was "like Kobe Bryant at a hotel room in Colorado ... he's unstoppable."

During Monday night's live broadcast of Monday Night Raw, the former Abraham Washington, now known as AW, made a remark during a match when he said Titus O'Neil was "like Kobe Bryant in a hotel room in Colorado, he's unstoppable."

Immediately, WWE announcer Michael Cole issued a stern apology on the air.

Crunchsports.com understands AW was blasted when he returned backstage, with wrestlers and management furious with the unscripted comment.

In 2003, Bryant was accused of a sexual assault on a woman in a Colorado hotel room which was settled out of court.

WWE on Monday night issued a statement to TMZ.com saying: "AW made an inappropriate comment and WWE immediately apologized."

The statement added: "WWE has taken appropriate action in the matter."

What the action is remains to be seen. Washington on Monday night also apologised via his Twitter page.
