WWE reveal The Rock vs. John Cena sets new WrestleMania buyrate record

WWE have announced that WrestleMania 28, headlined by The Rock vs. John Cena, set a company record for pay-per-view buys.

Based on preliminary estimates, WWE said on Monday that the April 1st show at Sun Life Stadium was bought by 1.3million people.

WWE's previous record of 1.25million buys was set at WrestleMania 23 in a show by headlined by the "Battle of the Billionaires" which saw Umaga take on Bobby Lashley with either Donald Trump or Vince McMahon's hair on the line.

Lashley won the match and McMahon's head was shaved.

According to WWE, WrestleMania 28 brought in more than $67million in worldwide gross sales.

The announced stadium attendance was 78,363, although it is thought that a more accurate figure is closer to 68,000.

WrestleMania 28 saw The Rock beat John Cena in the main event of the evening, while The Undertaker beat Triple H in a Hell in a Cell match with WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee.

In other action, CM Punk retained the WWE Championship with a submission win over Chris Jericho, while Sheamus defeated World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan in 18 seconds to capture the title.
