The third and final Twenty20 international of the ongoing series between South Africa and Sri Lanka will be played on Wednesday, January 25 as the two sides square off at the Newlands stadium in Cape Town.
The series currently stands level at 1-1. While the hosts won the first match by a healthy margin despite the fact that the contest was reduced to 10-overs a side, Sri Lanka bounced back with a good victory at Johannesburg on Sunday.
In the last contest at the New Wanderers stadium on Sunday, South Africa were bowled out for just 113 runs in the first period of the contest. Heino Kuhn top-scored with 29 runs for the Proteas with skipper Farhaan Behardien the only other batsman to score 20 runs or more on the occasion.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers did really well the other day with Lakshan Sandakan proving to be the pick of the bunch with four wickets. Isuru Udana picked up three wickets while Nuwan Kulasekara was rewarded for his efforts with a couple of wickets as well. Dhananjaya de Silva also claimed one solitary wicket for Sri Lanka.

Although South Africa’s bowlers made decent headway with the ball, Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews led his team to victory with an inspiring knock of an unbeaten 54 runs as others struggled. Niroshan Dickwella and Dinesh Chandimal had each scored 22 runs each but Mathews made all the difference with the bat as Sri Lanka won by three wickets and a couple of deliveries to spare.
Lungisani Ngidi did superbly with the ball for the hosts with four wickets to his name. Wayne Parnell, Imran Tahir and Smuts all did well to claim one wicket each in the last game. However, it proved to be in vain.
Sri Lanka will have a lot of confidence going into this upcoming contest. They bowled really well the other day and although their batting as a team was below-par, Mathews covered for their deficiencies. The skipper will be the key man once more for the visitors as they look to win the T20 series.
South Africa will hope that their performance the other day was a one-off. Their batsmen, a lot of whom are on the team thanks to some very good performances at the Ram Slam T20 Challenge, need to show better application at the middle if they are to succeed in winning on Wednesday. Ngidi bowled really well the other day despite being under pressure and he will be the key man for the hosts.
Match starts at 6 pm local time (4 pm GMT).
