Jordan Spieth targeting career Grand Slam at Quail Hollow

Neil Roarty in Golf 24 Jul 2017

Jordan Spieth has stated that his new aim in golf is to complete the career Grand Slam and he is already eyeing up the USPGA Championship at Quail Hollow in August as an opportunity to reach his goal.

Jordan Spieth won The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale to make it three out of four of golf's major titles and the 23-year-old American has admitted that completing the career Grand Slam is now his target.

Jack Nicklaus,  Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan, Gene Sarazen and Gary Player are the only five men to have won all four major titles and Spieth will be looking to join that illustrious company when he plays in the USPGA Championship at Quail Hollow in August.

"That's now the tournament that's really holding me back from everything I wanted to achieve in my career," said Spieth, who would become the youngsest man to win all four titles if he does triumph at Quail Hollow.

"The career Grand Slam is a life goal of mine. Growing up I just wanted to compete, but things have progressed quickly."

The American will head to North Carolina high on confidence after finishing The Open with what he describes as "the best stretch of golf I have ever played".

"That five-hole stretch is by far the best stretch of golf I have ever played," he told BBC Sport.

"To have it be at a major championship in the final round on Sunday, I'll have to sit back and think about it later on."

"I feel fortunate the way everything happened," he added.

"I'll thoroughly enjoy this. It's as much of a high as I've ever experienced. I'll enjoy it more than anything I've achieved."
