The returning Tiger Woods is nine shots off the pace at the Masters following a difficult first day at Augusta National.
The four-time Masters winner, playing in his first event for two months, finished the day one-over as he carded four bogeys and three birdies, and afterwards the 39-year-old admitted he had struggled to cope with the course’s slow greens.
“I made two dumb mistakes,” said Woods, who is tied for 41st.
“The worst was my second shot into the bunker at nine. Our entire group was really struggling on the greens. We were talking about how slow they were today. We had a hard time hitting the putts hard enough.”
