The 86th MLB All-Star Game takes place at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati tonight and the stakes are high for the American League and National League sides.

The victor of this Midsummer Classic gives their league representative home field advantage in the World Series and a Game 7 on your own turf could make all the difference with the championship on the line.

Ned Yost of the Kansas City Royals will take charge of the American League side, while Bruce Bochy of the San Francisco Giants is the National League manager for the 2015 showdown.
Yost and Bochy received that honour as they were the managers of the teams that were in the World Series last season.

Each has selected a 34-man roster, which includes 21 position players and 13 pitchers, though 2015 marks the first year the AL won’t have one starter from the New York Yankees or the Boston Red Sox.

The American League won the 2014 game 5-3 with Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels named MVP.

Three-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw, meanwhile, has received a late call up to the National League team, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced Sunday.

The ace left-hander replaces Washington Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer, who was chosen for the game but cannot play because he started at the weekend.

Kershaw was one of five NL players chosen for MLB’s All-Star “Final Vote,” but lost out to St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez in fan voting.

The 27-year-old, who is 6-6 with a 2.85 ERA this season, leads the NL in strikeouts (160) as well as strikeouts per nine innings (11.7).

He has now been an All-Star five consecutive seasons.
