MLB: Colorado Rockies at Los Angeles Dodgers preview

Crunch Sports Staff in MLB 7 Sep 2017

The Los Angeles Dodgers own the best record in Major League Baseball this season but they are struggling lately.

Tonight, they will attempt to snap a six-game skid when they kick off their four-game home series against NL West rivals Colorado Rockies. LA's woes continued on Wednesday after it was swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks in their three-game series at Dodgers Stadium after the visitors posted a 3-1 victory.

The Dodgers took an early lead after Cody Bellinger's nailed an RBI groundout in the first inning but Taijuan Walker tied the scores with an RBI double in the second inning. Adam Rosales put Arizona ahead with a double in the seventh inning before reaching home moments later after Daniel Descalso was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Dodgers dropped to 92-47 but remain 10 1/2 games clear of the Diamondbacks in the National League West title race. They have won just once in their last 12 games.

LA fans are hoping to see something positive when Clayton Kershaw (16-2) starts in this game. The All-Star lefty struck out seven and gave up two hits in their 1-0 win at San Diego last Friday in his first start since coming off the disabled list.

The Rockies (74-65) are also determined to bounce back after suffering a 3-11 home defeat to the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday. They never recovered after giving up five runs in the first five innings. Charlie Blackmon had a double and solo homer but his efforts were not enough as the Rockies saw their lead over the St. Louis Cardinals in the race for the second wildcard berth in the NL sliced to two games.

Starting for Colorado in this game is right-hander Jon Gray (6-4), who took their 2-6 home loss against Arizona last Saturday after yielding five hits and three runs in five innings.

The Dodgers lead the Rockies 7-5 in their head-to-head series this season.
