Jenson Button has played down the chances of McLaren showing any dramatic improvement at this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix.

The Marina Bay circuit should, in theory, favour the McLaren cars but Button has warned that no-one should expect any miracles from him or Fernando Alonso.

The street circuit places less emphasis on power than previous races but Button is telling McLaren fans not to expect too much.

“There’s no denying it’ll be hard work, and we aren’t expecting miracles overnight,” he said.

“But, Singapore is a fantastic circuit, it’s one of the longest races of the season in terms of time, and we quite often we see a Safety Car there. So, anything can happen; we’re hoping to learn a lot about how our car works in this configuration, and take as many positives from the weekend as we can.”
Meanwhile, there are no plans to amend the racing programme for this weekend’s action in Singapore even though a cloud of haze is hanging over the city state.

A statement read: “It is currently not possible to reliably predict what the pollution level might be as it changes hour to hour.”
