The Cleveland Cavaliers will shoot for a 2-0 lead over the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs when they face off at the Quicken Loans Arena on Monday night.
The second-seeded defending champions edged the Pacers 109-108 on Saturday to draw first blood in their best-of-seven series. Cleveland led by as many as 10 points in the fourth period before Indiana rallied to give the home fans a scare. The seventh-ranked Pacers had a chance to steal the win but CJ Miles missed a jumper shortly before the final buzzer sounded.
"I'm happy we go the victory," said Cleveland supertstar LeBron James, who finished with 32 points and 13 assists.
"I'm happy how emotional we was. I'm happy with the energy and the effort. They made some big shots and some big plays, so I'm excited about that."
Kyrie Irving added 23 points while Kevin Love added 17 as the Cavaliers got back on track after losing their last four games in the regular season. It was also Cleveland's fourth-straight win over Indiana counting its three victories over the Pacers in the regular season.
Paul George paced Indiana with 29 points and seven assists and the All-Star forward lamented that he did not have a chance to get the final shot.
"In situations like that, I gotta get the last shot. CJ took it upon himself. I'm confident with all of my guys taking shots. That's not the issue. In that situation, I need the ball," George said.
Backing up George in their quest to level the series are Miles, Jeff Teague, Myles Turner, Thaddeus Young and Monta Ellis.
