The San Antonio Spurs had no problem disposing of the Memphis Grizzlies in the opening game of their first-round playoff duel so they are expected to do the same in their rematch at the AT&T Center on Monday.
Behind the 32-point performance of Kawhi Leonard, the Spurs rolled past the Grizzlies 111-82 on Saturday to seize the lead in their best-of-seven showdown. San Antonio actually trailed by five points after the first period before dominating the second and third quarters to pull away.
"It's the playoffs, he stepped up. He made a lot of great plays for us. He's a very determined individual. He's just beginning to come into his own and realizing the effect he has on a game on both ends of the court," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said of Leonard after the All-Star forward matched his career-high output in the playoffs.
LaMarcus Aldridge added 20 points while Tony Parker chipped in 18 as the Spurs extended their winning run over the Grizzlies in the postseason to nine games. They also got back on track after losing their last three games in the regular season.
Marc Gasol was the top performer for Memphis with 32 points.
"It got ugly quick," Memphis head coach David Fizdale said. "They just got after us, they really got after us. They upped their pressure."
Mike Conley and Zach Randolph are determined to do better in Game 2 after being non-factors in the opening game. Conley shot just 5-of-14 and finished with 13 points while Randolph was held to six points. Defensive ace Tony Allen remains out with a calf injury.
