League leaders St George Illawarra Dragons will be looking to get back to winning ways when they take on Brisbane Broncos in the NRL today

The Dragons will be looking to get back on the horse following a defeat and a draw in their last two matches.

Brisbane Broncos host the reigning premiers at Suncorp Stadium on Friday and head coach Anthony Griffin is giving one of his star performers as long as possible to prove his fitness.

Griffin has revealed he will give centre Justin Hodges until the day of the game to prove he has recovered from the hamstring injury he picked up five weeks ago.

Griffin is also hoping that all of his State of Origin players – Ben Hannant, Darren Lockyer, Sam Thaiday, Corey Parker and Jahral Yow Yeh – will be fit to take on the Dragons.

St George themselves had six players playing in Wednesday’s State of Origin Game 2 and coach Wayne Bennett is confident the likes of Jamie Soward, Ben Creagh, Darius Boyd, Trent Merrin, Mark Gasnier and Beau Scott will all put their hands up to play.

Bennett also welcomes back Brett Morris and Kyle Stanley back to the squad after both recovering from hamstring tears.

Brisbane head into this clash in fifth place following last weekend’s golden point 25-24 win over Canberra Raiders, while the Dragons are in a bit of a rut following last Friday’s 28-14 loss against Gold Coast Titans coupled with the draw against Parramatta Eels the week before.
