David Villa, who has been linked with Arsenal, could be sold by Barcelona at the end of the season.
Arsenal were linked with Villa throughout the January transfer window and on transfer deadline day were believed to have tabled a £10million bid for the 31-year-old.
Barca had insisted throughout the winter window that Villa was not for sale, but reports in the Spanish media last month had suggested the Catalans could be ready to let him leave Camp Nou should they receive a bid in the region of £15m.
The Gunners are still believed to be interested in signing the Spain international, and Barca vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu has suggested that a sale will be allowed to go through when the transfer window reopens in the summer, should the player wish to find himself a new club.
"The coaches hope he is here next season but we will not retain any player that is uncomfortable," Bartomeu was quoted by talkSPORT as saying.
"In that case, we will talk to him to seek a solution."
Earlier this month it was reported that Villa wants to join the Gunners this summer, and speaking last week, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted: "I like the player."
