David Villa reportedly wants to leave Barcelona and join Arsenal at the end of the season.
Arsenal had been linked with Villa throughout the January transfer window and on transfer deadline day were believed to have tabled a £10million bid for the 31-year-old.
Barca had insisted throughout January that Villa was not for sale, but reports in the Spanish media last month had suggested the Catalans could be ready to let him leave Camp Nou should they receive a bid in the region of £15m.
A deal didn't happen, but according to The Sun, the Spain international wants to join the Gunners when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
Villa, who has fallen down the pecking order this season under Tito Vilanova, will be entering the final year of his contract at the end of the current campaign.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger on Friday had hinted that Villa was on his radar. The Frenchman brought in left-back Nacho Monreal from Malaga in an £8million deal shortly before the transfer window closed, and speaking to reporters insisted: "We were close to one more signature."
He added: "It didn’t happen because of the desire of the clubs not to sell."
