Jose Mourinho expects Arsenal FC to be title contenders

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho expects Arsenal to be genuine Premier League title contenders this season.

Arsenal last won the title in 2004, since when they have always finished in the top four without ever looking good enough to mount a serious challenge for top spot.

However, Mourinho believes Arsene Wenger now has a squad that should be strong enough to challenge the likes of his side, Manchester City and Manchester United for the title.

The Gunners finished 13 points behind Chelsea last season, but Mourinho said of Wenger’s current squad: “If you add up the amounts Chelsea and Arsenal have spent in the last three or four years I think maybe you will find a surprise.

“If you put Ozil plus Alexis Sanchez, plus Chambers, plus Debuchy, you will find a surprise.

“It’s a fantastic squad with good players, a fantastic goalkeeper. They are more than ready to be title contenders.”
