Preview:

Bayern's new head coach Pep Guardiola faces his old club Barcelona for the first time this evening in Munich.

Guardiola, who enjoyed a trophy laden (14) four-year tenure in charge of the Catalans, won his first piece of silverware with the reigning European champions as they clinched the Telekom Cup last weekend with a win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Bayern were impressive to say the least, taking a 3-0 lead inside 26 minutes courtesy of goals from Franck Ribery, Philipp Lahm and former Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller were also on the scoresheet as the 2012/13 Bundesliga champions ran out 5-1 winners.

Munich will expect to face a much sterner test against Barca as they finalise their preparations for this weekend's German Super Cup clash with Borussia Dortmund, although the Spanish champions were dealt a massive blow at the weekend with the news that Guardiola's replacement at the club, Tito Vilanova, has been forced to step down from his position due to illness.

Vilanova had a tumour removed from his throat in late 2011 but suffered a relapse before beginning a course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in New York this year.

Gerardo Martino was on Tuesday confirmed as Barca's replacement after signing a two-year contract.

The build-up to tonight's game has also seen Barcelona facing the prospect of starting the new campaign without talented midfielder Cesc Fabregas, with Manchester United seemingly determined to bring the former Arsenal captain back to the Premier League. The Red Devils had an initial offer for the 26-year-old rejected and have returned with an improved offer, and are rumoured to be ready to raise their bid to £35million this week.
