Malaga CF to sign Chelsea FC striker Romelu Lukaku on loan - report

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is reportedly set to join Malaga on loan in January.

The 18-year-old joined the Blues from Anderlecht during the summer in a deal worth in the region of £18million.

Reports towards the end of August had suggested Chelsea were ready to let the young Belgium international leave Stamford Bridge on loan to join Stoke - just days after he made his debut - but the Premier League rulebook states that a player bought by one club cannot be loaned to another in the same transfer window.

It had been thought that a loan move in January may not happen, however, depending on which of his players Andre Villas-Boas is missing because of the African Cup of Nations.

But according to talkSPORT citing reports in Italy, big-spending Malaga will complete a loan deal for the teenager when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

Some questioned Lukaku's move to Chelsea, with critics saying he would have been better off staying in Belgium in order to continue his development with regular first-team football.

Villas-Boas sees the young forward as a long-term replacement for Didier Drogba, who is yet to agree a new deal at the club.

And Lukaku himself has no regrets over his big money move.

Speaking last month, he said: "Some believe in Belgium that moving to Chelsea was too big a step.

"I still consider it the right choice though.

"If you learn from the best, then you can become one of the best."
