Manchester City are reportedly closing in on the signing of Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic, who has also been linked with Chelsea.
Jovetic, who was linked with Chelsea and City throughout the summer, earlier this month admitted to having rejected offers from unnamed clubs in favour of remaining with the Serie A club.
But according to the Daily Star, City boss Roberto Mancini has held talks with Fiorentina about a pre-contract agreement.
Jovetic is said to have promised Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle that he would remain at the club for one more season, providing he would be allowed to join the Blues next summer.
The Montenegro international, who has also been linked with Arsenal, last week insisted he made the right choice in turning down a big-money move during the summer.
"I am happy to be at the centre of this project at Fiorentina," Jovetic told Sky Sport Italia.
"I'm looking to show on the field that I am happy to still be in Florence.
"I received important offers in the summer and I thought about what to do but the club promised me that they would build a great team, and that has happened. So many good players have arrived and we can do much better than last season.
"I decided to stay at Fiorentina and I am very happy. I want to try and win something here.
"My agent did not put any pressure on me. He did his job by telling me about the offers that were coming in, but in the end I decided to stay at Fiorentina."
