Real Madrid may be setting the pace in La Liga but they are in serious danger of bowing out of the Copa del Rey at the quarter-final stage following a shock first-leg defeat.
Zinedine Zidane’s side failed to make the most of home-field advantage when they entertained Celta at the Bernabeu a week ago, crashing to a surprise 2-1 defeat as goals. Marcelo appeared to have rescued a draw when he cancelled out Iago Aspas’s opener, but just one minute later Celta when straight up the other end and Jonny Castro secured a famous victory for the visitors.
Real now find themselves in a must-win situation tonight and those two away goals for Celta makes life even more difficult for the league leaders. Real have to win and score two or more goals to turn this tie around and they are hardly in great form having won just one of their last four games in all competitions. Celta Vigo, meanwhile, may have lost at the weekend but they have now won six of their last seven competitive games and have beaten both Barcelona and Real Madrid this season.
This is a tough task for Real and they not exactly in fantastic form right, but this is Real Madrid and opposing them feels like a silly move. They are going to have to go on the offensive early and, unlike in the first leg, Zidane will almost certainly go with his strongest attacking group because they desperately need goals. Celta will have opportunities to catch them out on the break though, so I am expecting to see both goals bulge as Real win the second leg in 90 minutes.
