Speaking ahead of the game, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said he will not lose sleep about a potential backlash if his side lose the first Merseyside derby of the season.

The Northern Irishman hit out at a “frenzied” campaign to remove him in the wake of a morale-boosting 3-2 win against Aston Villa at Anfield last weekend, but questions about his future resurfaced in response to an underwhelming 1-1 draw against Sion in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Liverpool have not won at Goodison since October 2011, but when asked if he was worried about the reaction from fans in the event of defeat this weekend, Rodgers told reporters: “No, no, not at all, not at all, we will go into the game with every notion to perform and win well.

“If we get a wee bit of luck, if we earn a bit of good fortune, we can win the game.”

The former Swansea City boss added: “I am not worried, I am not worried and that is not being arrogant or having been given any assurances.

“I will do my best with what I am working with and our notion is to win the game and that is for the weekend. It is rebuilding a group again, new players and going again.”

Liverpool have doubts over Christian Benteke, while Roberto Firmino, captain Jordan Henderson and Dejan Lovren remain sidelined.
