FC Barcelona and Man City on alert as Gareth Bale considering future - report

Barcelona and Manchester City are on alert as Gareth Bale is reportedly considering his Tottenham future.

Bale recently admitted he could consider his future this summer should Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League, and has previously stated he is keen on playing in Spain at some point in the future.

Reports in Spain last month suggested Barca had already agreed a fee with Tottenham for Bale - something which Spurs boss Harry Redknapp later denied.

Since then, Barcelona-based newspaper El Mundo Deportivo have reported that the Catalans are still keen on luring the 22-year-old to Camp Nou this summer, and according to the Daily Mirror, Bale has gone on holiday to decide his future after doubts emerged over whether Redknapp will stay at White Hart Lane.

Spurs, who face a fight to keep hold of midfielder Luka Modric this summer, are desperate to keep hold of Bale and have offered him a new big-money contract to persuade him to commit his long-term future to the club.

But according to the report, both Barca and Premier League champions Man City are monitoring developments in north London as Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is believed to be unwilling to give Redknapp the new contract he is seeking.

Earlier this year, contract talks stalled while Redknapp was being linked with the England job, and as a result it is thought Levy is in no rush to offer him a new deal, which in turn has led to doubts over whether the club will be able to keep hold of their star players.

City are thought to be prepared to break the bank to land Bale, but Barcelona are said to be unwilling to meet Tottenham's valuation - believed to be around £35million.

Bale's Tottenham team-mate Sandro recently said he believes the Wales international is keen on a move to Barca.

"Gareth is calm, but I am sure that he would like to play at Barca," he told COM Radio.

And Bale himself admitted in April: "If you are talking about Barcelona or Real Madrid, two of the biggest clubs in the world, then it's a bit like Harry and England, it's a once-in-a-lifetime dream.

"If you said to any young player that you could play for Barcelona or Real would they turn it down? Probably not."

He added: "If a bid was accepted you would obviously have to seriously consider it.

"But that has not happened so, at the moment, I'm just concentrating on Tottenham."
