FC Barcelona Confirm Neymar Sidelined With Mumps

Neymar will be missing for two weeks after being diagnosed with mumps, Barcelona have confirmed.

Neymar had impressed in pre-season after cutting short his holiday, particularly in the Gamper Trophy against Roma.

However, the Brazil international will miss the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla and both legs of the Supercopa clash with Athletic Bilbao as a result of the illness.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “The first-team medical staff at Barcelona reported on Sunday that Neymar would be sidelined for 15 days after he was diagnosed with parotitis (mumps), despite having been previously vaccinated.
“Consequently, the Brazilian forward will miss the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday at 20:45 CET in Tbilisi, Georgia.

“The No 11 also cannot participate in the Supercopa, which sees Luis Enrique’s men face Athletic Club on August 14 and 17.”
