Craig Bellamy has reportedly had his chances of returning to former club Liverpool dented by Manchester City.
The 32-year-old, who is also a target for Tottenham, was wanted by Reds boss Kenny Dalglish to provide backup and competition for Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll, but was only willing to sign the Wales international if he was available on a free transfer.
Bellamy earns around £90,000-a-week at the Etihad Stadium and while Liverpool are prepared to offer him a lucrative short-term contract, they are unwilling to pay a transfer fee.
And although a moved looked close on Monday, Bellamy could now be forced to sit out the final year of his contract at Eastlands.
According to the Daily Mail, the forward is likely to stay at City after the club refused to offer him a settlement package to cover the last 12 months of his contract.
A move is still possible before Wednesday's transfer deadline, but it will depend on whether City are prepared resurrect talks to settle the final year of his big money deal.
