Liverpool want to sign Salomon Kalou according to Schalke coach Huub Stevens, who is also keen on the former Chelsea striker.
Kalou was released by Chelsea at the end of the last month and has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks. Arsenal and Tottenham have both shown interest, while clubs from Italy and Spain are believed to be keen on snapping up the Ivory Coast international, along with Besiktas and former club Feyenoord.
Stevens has confirmed Schalke's interest in the 26-year-old, but has revealed he is aware that new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers also wants to secure the services of the Ivory Coast international, who is available on a free transfer.
"Liverpool are in the market for him [Kalou], but I know he wants to leave England," said Stevens.
"That can be an advantage for us."
Schalke are also keen on signing Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart, but Stevens admits signing his compatriot will be tough.
"It is clear that Rafael is a very good player," the Dutchman added.
"But first we would have to sell players, and even then, a transfer is difficult."
