Brendan Rodgers says new Liverpool FC striker Christian Benteke will ‘be a bargain’

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that Christian Benteke has been a top signing and insists he has no concerns over the transfer fee.

Benteke moved to Anfield from Aston Villa for £32.5million, the second most expensive signing in the club’s history. The acquisition has also led to concerns that the team will have to adapt their style of play to cope with his more physical game.

However, Rodgers has no such worries and is convinced the Belgian forward will prove perfect for Liverpool.

He said: “I think he’ll prove to be a bargain for the club, I really do.

“I’ve read things about his game, but in the short period of time he’s been in, I’ve been even more impressed. I’ve seen him up close hand now for three years and watched this guy, with his power, strength and ability.”

In particular Rodgers says that his strength will allow the team to keep the ball further up the field but will also help them to become less predictable, a criticism that had been levelled at the team last season following the departure of Luis Suarez.

Rodgers added: “He’s surprised people in the early stages of life at Liverpool with that mobility and the quickness of his feet – and his natural power and strength is there to see.”

With Sterling gone and Mario Balotelli also likely to leave Anfield, Benteke will be part of a new-look attack this season including also Danny Ings, Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino.
