A optimistic Liverpool supporter has placed a whopping £44,000 bet on his side winning the Premier League title this season.

British bookmakers William Hill reported that a Liverpool fan in his mid-thirties has placed a £22,000 each-way bet on Brendan Rodgers' side to win the Premiership at odds of 25/1.

Should Liverpool win the league, the unnamed man will pocket £777,333.33, while should the Merseysiders finish second, he will win £205,333.33.

The large bet has led to William Hill cutting their odds on Liverpool to win the Premier League to 16/1.

William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly told Crunchsports.com: "The football has gone largely unnoticed while the Olympics has been going on although there has been a steady stream of bets on Liverpool winning the title, mainly from the North West.

"There has not been that much movement in or out of Anfield this summer but despite this, Liverpool now constitute around 40% of all stakes that we have taken on the Premier League winner market."

Reigning champions Manchester City are favourites to win the 2012-13 Premier League, ahead of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal.
