AZ Alkmaar have admitted that midfielder Rasmus Elm, who has been linked with an £8million move to Liverpool, will be sold this summer.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs over the past year, with Arsenal and Manchester United believed to be showing interest.
But a report on Monday suggested Elm was closing in on a move to Anfield after Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish flew to the Netherlands at the weekend to try and finalise a deal (see Related Articles).
And the chances of him moving to Merseyside at the end of the season appear to have increased after AZ technical director Earnest Stewart told Voetbal International: "His contract expires next year and we can’t afford to have Rasmus leave on a free transfer.
"It goes without saying that we want to keep him for longer. We are already talking to each other, but the birth of his daughter saw them postponed.
"Despite all the interest in Rasmus, I really hope he just stays at AZ."
