Manchester United have been given a boost in their pursuit of Keisuke Honda after the CSKA Moscow midfielder's agent hinted that a move to Lazio may not go through.

Reports last week suggested that United had entered the race to sign the 25-year-old, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League on a number of occasions over the past twelve months.

Arsenal and Liverpool have both shown interest in the Japan international, with recent reports in his homeland suggesting both clubs were considering January bids for the playmaker.

Reports in Italy over the past few days have suggested that Lazio could be closing in on Honda, with talk of a January loan move to the Stadio Olimpico happening ahead of a permanent deal going through in the summer.

But according to agent Maikel Stevens, a move to the Rome-based club may not happen at all this month.

"Lazio is a great option for Honda," Stevens told Corriere dello Sport.

"But we're still unsure whether the transfer will take place now or in the summer."

Honda, who Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has previously called a "genius" on the ball, is thought to be keen on a move to the Premier League despite the interest from Lazio.

Paris Saint-Germain have also shown interest in the player, with reports in Japan earlier this month suggesting they were preparing a bid in the region of £12million.
