Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has already confirmed that he plans to make further new signings next year.
The title race is already wide open, and FootballTips.com writer Thomas Rooney has picked out three players who Rodgers should sign in January to maintain the Reds' title challenge...
This may seem like a strange one with Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez performing so well together, but there will be injuries, there will be suspensions and there is still the possibility of the latter moving on.
Rodgers will need to rest them at times too or at least have a capable goal-scoring option from the bench. This is why Michu would be a superb signing for Liverpool.
The Spaniard is proven in the Premier League, would suit the team's style of play and could even operate in the same team as the now famous 'SaS' partnership. Michu often plays in behind the front man for Swansea.
If Liverpool are to be genuine title contenders, another significant goal threat would be extremely beneficial and Michu could be a revelation at Anfield.
2. Lars Bender
Bender is a midfield option that would be fantastic for Liverpool to have. You could argue the Reds have enough in this department already - but the Germany international would be something different.
You only have to look at current title favourites Chelsea for how many midfielders other Premier League teams have, so Rodgers shouldn't underestimate the impact someone like Bender could have from January onwards.
Lucas is currently performing well, but if he was to fall injured or suffer a dip in form - the Reds have limited quality options to replace him. Bender would provide excellent competition for places.
Currently one of the main men for Bayer Leverkusen, it might be difficult for Liverpool to do a deal but if they could bring in the 24-year-old it would be a massive transfer coup.
3. Luke Shaw
Liverpool need another option at left-back - that's a fact. They don't want a short-term fix in this area either and this is why haw could be a superb signing.
Rodgers is keen to focus on the future as well as the present and Shaw fits the bill. The Southampton full-back is just 18-years-old and already making a positive impact in the Premier League.
Shaw can push forward well too, so would fit in nicely should Rodgers look to play with wing-backs again this season. The youngster would add another exciting element to this Liverpool team.
