Three reasons why Chelsea FC will get the best out of Frank Lampard next season

Frank Lampard has agreed a new one-year contract with Chelsea and will now be at the club until at least June 2014.

Lampard's existing deal was due to expire next month and there had been uncertainty over his future, but on Thursday it was confirmed that the 34-year-old had agreed an extension.

With the England international set to still be at Stamford Bridge next season, writer Thomas Rooney has three reasons why next season could be his best yet...

1. The return of Jose Mourinho

It is the worst kept secret in football, but it seems as though Mourinho is set to return to Chelsea this summer and Lampard will benefit from this.

He and the Special One have an excellent relationship and it seems likely that Lampard will feel wanted again. After a year of speculation, he has now been rewarded by the club.

The combination of Mourinho and Chelsea was a successful one last time out too, and it could well be again. Lampard will look to play a massive part in this.

2. The leading goalscorer record has been broken

Earlier this month, Lampard became Chelsea's top scorer of all time. In the build up to this record being broken, there was definitely plenty of attention on it.

This brought pressure on the 34-year-old and when Lampard started games, people were talking about is as a chance to edge closer to the milestone.

This incredible achievement is behind him now though and he can move on. He can now go into every single game as Chelsea's leading scorer, rather than someone trying to chalk the goals off.

3. Lamps is enjoying every single second

At one point this season, it genuinely looked as though Lampard was going to leave the club. Discussions also took a long time, so he would have had his doubts.

Therefore, he will relish every single second from now on. Lampard has had an excellent season, but in the next campaign, he will have a smile on his face throughout.

He loves Chelsea. Chelsea love him. It makes sense that he is to stay on for another year and make no mistake about it - there is plenty of success to come yet.
