Victoria Azarenka takes on Maria Kirilenko today in the quarter-finals of the 2013 French Open at Roland Garros (13:00 BST start).
Azarenka doesn't consider clay courts to be her favourite playing surface, but she's put together a quarter-final run so far at Roland Garros. She's already taken out some very accomplished dirtballers including 2010 champion Francesca Schiavone, who she recorded an emphatic 6-3 6-0 victory over in round four.
With Azarenka appearing to be peaking at the right time, matching her career best Roland Garros outing in the process, we can expect a confident performance from her this afternoon against Kirilenko. This is the only slam in which she's yet to reach the semi-final but she appears to stand a very good chance against the Russian.
Kirilenko has been a revelation this season. She stopped playing doubles to focus on cracking the top ten and she's currently on course to achieve that feat. Her efforts in Paris should give her a significant boost as she only reached the second round last year. Also, with the new territory she has a chance to reach the first slam semi-final of her career.
Kirilenko holds a 2-3 record against Vika but the Belarusian is on a three match winning streak against her following two straight set wins in 2010 and a third straight setter last year at the Olympics. That said, this pairing are yet to meet on clay and this could shake things up a little.
