Jelena Jankovic takes on Melanie Oudin later today in the first round of the 2013 Family Circle Cup in Charleston (16:30 BST start).
World No. 18 Jankovic will be one to watch this afternoon, having made a huge return to form at the Sony Open in Miami last week.
JJ beat some of the WTA's leading lights at Crandon Park, including Nadia Petrova, Roberta Vinci and Sorana Cirstea. She quickly came unstuck against second seed Maria Sharapova in the semi-finals though.
2013 is shaping up nicely for Jankovic. She won a title in Bogota in February and should be happy about returning to the clay this week.
Oudin achieved great success in the early stages of her career but went through a rough patch in 2011. She's back inside the top hundred now and at just 21 years of age could be on course for a return towards the upper echelons of the WTA. That said, she's got a 1-6 record for 2013 and will be desperate to avoid another slump.
Recent form doesn't present Oudin's chances in a positive light, but her 2-0 head-to-head record against Jankovic tells a different story. That said, both of the American's wins against the Serb took place on grass, and on the slower green clay we can expect the more consistent player to prevail. In other words, Jankovic should be able to sail through to round two.
Prediction: Jankovic in two.
