After just one match as her coach, Jimmy Connors has been fired by Maria Sharapova!
Connors only took over as Sharapova's coach last week, but amazingly he's already been given his marching orders.
The American's one match as the Career Grand Slam winner's coach took place on Tuesday at the Western & Southern Open, where Maria produced a sub-par performance en route to a disappointing three set defeat against Sloane Stephens.
Connors had seemed to be reasonably optimistic despite the losing start, and tweeted after the match: "Every good round starts with a bogey - not the start we wanted, so back to work tomorrow."
It remains to be seen why Sharapova has decided to part ways with Connors. At this stage we can only speculate, though Jimmy didn't seem to be particularly impressed by the Russian's display against Stephens when he was sat court side. He was seen shaking his head during the match, and perhaps there were things said after the match that led to Sharapova's decision.
Sharapova had previously worked with Thomas Hogstedt for over three years. Hogstedt guided Sharapova to the French Open title but was unable to meet the travel commitments required for being the world No. 3's coach.
